14:35 Mr Jumy: Good afternoon (MR Helper)
14:35 (MR Helper): Welcome to HP Chat Support. My name is (MR Helper) and I will be your technical support specialist today. Please allow me a few minutes while I review your information.
14:35 (MR Helper): Very good afternoon.
14:35 Mr Jumy: I’m having serious difficulties caused by the hp os boot manager
14:36 Mr Jumy: basically I need to install Linux in my machine, but using a UEFI distribution, or disabling the Secure boot don’t helps
14:37 (MR Helper): From the issue description I understand that you are experiencing issues on installing Linux on the unit, correct ?
14:37 Mr Jumy: because the hp os boot manager always boots to windows and I can’t modify or change the order on it
14:37 Mr Jumy: yes, that’s correct
14:38 (MR Helper): Thank you for confirming.
14:39 Mr Jumy: I tried to install it with all the different possibilities, with secure boot, without it, legacy, etc
14:40 Mr Jumy: but the hp os boot manager always avoid it from booting
14:40 (MR Helper): I truly understand your concern as this is a different operating system and HP recommends windows but again the support for this will be on a best effort basis.
14:41 Mr Jumy: I need both windows and linux for work
14:41 Mr Jumy: and honestly, at the moment the only solution I can find is to take back the pc to the store and ask for a refound
14:42 (MR Helper): Okay I see that you want dual enabled on the unit, correct ?
14:42 (MR Helper): *Dual software.
14:42 Mr Jumy: yes, everything is installed
14:42 Mr Jumy: but as I said, I can’t never boot grub (the os selector) because of the hp os boot manager
14:43 Mr Jumy: I have been installing linux for 10 years and is the 1st time I find this kind of problem
14:45 (MR Helper): Okay, now currently the windows is installed, correct ?
14:46 Mr Jumy: yes
14:46 (MR Helper): Okay, now you want only Linux to be the operating system on the unit, correct ?
14:46 Mr Jumy: no
14:46 Mr Jumy: I want both of them
14:46 Mr Jumy: as I have been doing for these past 15 years
14:48 Mr Jumy: and as I previously said, both of them are installed, but the hp os boot manager prevents grub from loading and I can’t select the os
14:48 (MR Helper): Okay, please let me know have you tried installing Linux within windows on completely different drive.
14:49 Mr Jumy: no, my laptop has only one hard drive, I changed the size of the partition and I installed linux on it
14:49 (MR Helper): Linux is already installed.
14:49 Mr Jumy: it is
14:50 Mr Jumy: but I can’t boot to linux because of the hp boot manager
14:51 (MR Helper): okay, please let me know the error that is prompted whilst inserting the second disc.
14:52 Mr Jumy: sory, there is no error whilst insertin the 2nd disc
14:52 (MR Helper): So when you insert the second discs of linux ,please let me know what happens
14:52 Mr Jumy: linux is installed
14:53 Mr Jumy: the problem is, when I boot the PC, I can’t boot into it
14:53 Mr Jumy: always boots into Windows
14:53 Mr Jumy: because always boots the HP Boot Manager and I can’t get into linux
14:53 (MR Helper): So I understand on startup there is no option to select the operating system
14:54 Mr Jumy: exactly
14:54 (MR Helper): Okay,I see that you have tried disabling the secure boot.
14:55 Mr Jumy: yes
14:55 Mr Jumy: and enabling the legacy mode
14:55 (MR Helper): Okay, please let me know if you tried changing the BOOT order.
14:55 Mr Jumy: and disabling both of them
14:55 Mr Jumy: I can change the boot order
14:55 Mr Jumy: and I did it
14:56 Mr Jumy: the problem is that when it boots from the hard drive, always avoid any other posibility that is not the HP OS boot manager
14:56 Mr Jumy: and that can’t be changed
14:56 Mr Jumy: and that is preventing grub (the os selector) from loading
14:57 (MR Helper): Okay, please try restoring the BIOS to defaults and please try booting again.
14:57 Mr Jumy: already tried before contacting you
14:57 Mr Jumy: I have here a different machine from a different brand , with UEFI, and everything is working like a charm
15:00 (MR Helper): Okay, what we can try here is first we should install Linux and then please try installing windows.
15:01 Mr Jumy: I can’t install windows as it comes preinstalled in the laptop, it doesn’t includes licence number and the only thing I can do (and is already done) is to create a recovery USB
15:03 Mr Jumy: the only alternative is buying a new windows 8 disk and that’s £100
15:03 (MR Helper): Not to worry, you can create the recovery discs that is already present on the unit.
